Questions & Answers

No! I counsel individuals who hold a variety of different beliefs.

All the time! I wouldn’t have clients, or friends, if I only had conversations with people who hold the same beliefs as I do!

When you work with a counselor, it shouldn’t matter what the counselor’s beliefs are because they should listen and help you better understand your own beliefs, values, and needs without unduly interjecting their own beliefs. Unfortunately, many people aren’t having this accepting, inclusive, non-judgmental experience in counseling. Some people who believe in such nonconforming ideas like liberty and freedom are reporting being met with hostility from woke counselors.

So what do pro-liberty folks do? Too often we either don’t seek counseling in the first place because we suspect that we will not be met with acceptance, or we self-censor to continue working with a woke counselor.

As counselors we often designate ourselves as being safe, aligned, or allied with certain outcast or marginalized groups. (I’ve even had the option of checking a box to indicate if I was vegan or vegan-allied on a directory profile.) It has become clear to me that there are people who are not feeling welcome to fully express themselves in counseling due to their political beliefs and this is my way of saying that you are welcome to express yourself with me.

Wellness and freedom are tremendously important to me. Emotional wellness is foundational to physical wellness and being physically and emotionally well are part of living a more free and independent life. Counseling appealed to me because I saw it as a way to be continually enhancing wellness and freedom for myself and others.

I also love really getting to know people through one-on-one conversations, working for myself, having low overhead, and making my own schedule!

Haha! No! There are libertarian scholars to consult on such matters. I just love freedom and want more for me and you!

My libertarian lens on the world is more likely to show up in the form of talking about how you can live your life more by your own design instead of by the influences of an unwell society. I love talking about healthy selfishness and rejecting unhealthy expectations of obligation and sacrifice.

I try to make it as easy as possible and I love working with people who are new to, or nervous about counseling!

First, use the Contact form to send me a message, ask a question, or tell me about yourself, or if you’re ready to schedule a time to talk over phone or video, use the Free Consultation form.

Once we’ve had a chance to talk during our free consultation conversation, I’ll let you know if I think I can be of any further help to you and you decide if you’d like to talk with me again. If we both want to, we schedule a time to talk for an hour, or longer.

When we schedule our first full session, I will send you an email with a link to fill out my practice documents. You will also get a confirmation email and a link to connect. (If we are having a video appointment) If we are having a phone appointment, I will call you at the time we have scheduled.

Then we have our first session! You talk. I ask questions. You answer the ones you want to. You talk. I listen. I talk. You might ask questions. I ask more questions. I often make poor metaphors and agonize to remember exact word I want to use. We feel, we think, we laugh and after all that, you decide if you want to have another conversation and it goes on from there!

Whatever is right for you! I have no expectation of you sticking to a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly standing appointment. I like to go one at a time. Sometimes you may want to talk weekly, then taper off to bi-weekly, monthly, or seasonally. You can talk to me every week for a while then not talk for 6 months or a year if that’s what is right for you!

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

To obtain my NCC credential I got a master’s degree in counseling, passed the National Counselor Examination (NCE), pay dues to the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and I complete continuing education credits to maintain my credential as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

I am NOT a licensed counselor.

As a counselor who is not licensed by any state, my services are not covered by insurance. My practice is private pay only.

If it’s in your home, have it go whatever way you want it to go! If it’s not in your home, I still don’t care. I think you’re a good person just for putting on a new roll!
